If you are looking for a Bugster alternative, start with the news: Bugster is winding down. Reticle is one option for the part your coding agent needs, a check it runs on its own change, but it does not run plain-English browser tests the way Bugster did.
What happened to Bugster
Bugster's homepage banner links to "A letter to our users, customers and friends", which says: "After two years of building Bugster, it's time to say goodbye" (letter). The letter is dated May 22; the page does not show the year, and the company's two-year history points to 2026. Treat the service as ending, and plan your next step now rather than when it stops.
What Bugster did
Bugster sold AI end-to-end testing to QA engineers, engineering leads and developers (bugster.dev). You described user flows in plain English, and agents clicked, typed and navigated the app in real browsers, running suites from CI, on nightly schedules or on pull requests, and filing bug reports with repro steps and video. bugster pull and bugster push synced tests as YAML so a coding agent could edit them, and bugster plugin added agent rules for Cursor and Claude Code (docs). The free plan allowed 70 end-to-end runs a month.
What Reticle does
Reticle checks an AI coding agent's change from inside the running web app and returns a verdict with evidence. It reads the network calls, the application state and the console, and on React and Svelte it names the file:line to fix.
Your agent calls it through MCP while it works. Flows it drives are saved and replay deterministically, with no model in the loop. The SDK is open source (Apache-2.0) and runs on your machine; the hosted platform runs the same checks on previews and pull requests.
Bugster vs Reticle at a glance
| Bugster (winding down) | Reticle | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Winding down | Active; open-source SDK |
| How flows are written | Plain English, kept as YAML | Flows your agent drives, saved and replayed |
| Where it looks | Real browsers, outside the app | Inside the app (SDK), plus a driven browser |
| What a check reads | What the page shows, with video | Network count, app state, console and DOM after each step |
| Agent access | Rules for Cursor and Claude Code | MCP for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex; CLI; HTTP |
| Re-running | Agents run the flow again | Deterministic replay, no model in the loop |
| Output | Bug report with repro steps and video | Verdict with the failing request or state, and file:line on React and Svelte |
What to do with your Bugster tests
- Export the YAML while you can.
bugster pullwrites your flows as files. Even after the service ends, those plain-English steps are a written record of the journeys you cared about, and a good list of what to cover next. - Decide which job you need replaced. If you want another service that runs plain-English browser tests on every pull request, look at the AI QA agents on our alternatives page. If you want your coding agent to stop shipping changes that look right and do not work, read on.
Where Reticle fits for former Bugster users
- The agent checks its own change. Bugster tested on pull requests and on a schedule. Reticle runs in the agent's session, so a broken change fails before the pull request exists.
- It catches what a video misses. A charge request sent twice, a write that never persists, a store that disagrees with the page. Reticle reads them directly.
- Re-runs do not flake. Eight replays of a saved flow gave one verdict, and four flows re-verify in about 480 tokens, with no model in the loop.
- It does not depend on a service to keep working. The SDK is open source and local, so saved flows keep replaying without our platform.
Where Reticle is the weaker choice: it does not run plain-English tests, it produces no video bug reports, and app state and file:line need its SDK in your build (on sites you do not own it reads network, console and DOM). On 88 seeded bugs it caught 85 with no false alarms, with one genuine miss (scorecard).
Can you use both?
Not for long, since Bugster is winding down. The practical setup for most former users is Reticle as the agent's inner check plus a Playwright suite as the release gate; Reticle vs Playwright Test explains how those divide the work. Another closed tool's users faced the same choice: see the Octomind alternative.

FAQ
Is Bugster shutting down?
Yes, Bugster is winding down. Its homepage links to a letter that says "After two years of building Bugster, it's time to say goodbye." The letter is dated May 22 without a year on the page; the company's history points to 2026. Export your flows with bugster pull and plan a replacement now.
What is the best alternative to Bugster?
The best alternative to Bugster depends on the job you need replaced. For plain-English browser tests on every pull request, look at other AI QA agents. For a check your coding agent runs inside the web app, reading network, state and console with the source line, Reticle fits. For hand-written tests, Playwright fits.
Can I move my Bugster tests to Reticle?
Not automatically. Reticle does not import Bugster's YAML. Use the exported flows as a checklist: have your coding agent drive each journey once with Reticle connected, and each run is saved as a flow that replays deterministically on later changes. The plain-English steps stay useful as documentation of what to cover.
Does Reticle work with Claude Code and Cursor like Bugster?
Yes, Reticle works with Claude Code and Cursor, and with Codex. They call it through MCP during the session and read the verdict before saying the task is done. Claude Code also has a plugin. Setup is one pasted line, or npx @reticlehq/core init, and the same checks run in CI.
Why Reticle
Your agent says it works. Reticle checks.
- Checks each change inside the running app: network, state and console, not a screenshot.
- Returns a pass or fail with the evidence and the file:line to fix.
- Open-source SDK on your machine, or the platform on every preview and PR.
